BoxTag

Never dig through your basement again

Print a QR label, stick it on a box, and write down what is inside. Later, just search for the thing you are looking for — BoxTag tells you which box it is in and where that box stands.

What makes it different

Unlimited boxes

No limit, no paywall, no “premium” tier hiding the useful half.

Fully offline

Works in a basement with no signal. There is nothing to sign up for.

No ads, ever

Not now, not after the next update.

Under 2 MB

Small enough that you forget it is installed.

BoxTag has no internet permission at all. Not “we promise not to send your data” — the app is technically unable to. Open the app info screen on your phone, look at Permissions, and you will find exactly one: the camera. You do not have to take our word for it.

How it works

  1. Create a box — it gets a short code like 001.
  2. Write what is inside, one item per line. Add a photo if you want.
  3. Print the label sheet on ordinary paper, cut it out and tape it on.
  4. Later: search in the app, or scan the label with the camera.

The label stays valid forever

The QR code carries only the box code and its name, never the list of items. That means you can add or remove things from a box as often as you like without ever reprinting the label. Most apps get this backwards and make you print a new sticker every time the contents change.

Printing without special paper

Labels print eight to an A4 sheet as an ordinary PDF, through the printing service already built into your phone. No adhesive label sheets needed — plain paper and tape work fine. Each label carries the QR code, the box code in large print, the name, the location and the first few items, so you often do not even need to scan it.

Your data stays yours

Everything lives on your phone. Export a backup whenever you want and keep it wherever you like — it is a plain ZIP with a readable JSON file and your photos inside. Import merges by box code, so moving to a new phone loses nothing.
